It’s all guesswork, I admit, but I really don’t think Fallout 5 is going to happen and if that means Bethesda working on more new IP instead I’d say that’s a good thing. In the meantime you’ve got Wasteland 3, which is very good, and Fallout 76, which isn’t - as well as The Outer World, which is also quite similar and by some of the original Fallout team. A Fallout 5 by Bethesda just doesn’t seem like it’s on the cards at the moment and I’d be less surprised if inXile brought Wasteland, the spiritual predecessor to Fallout, into 3D than Bethesda announced they’re working on Fallout 5.Īt the very least, it is going to be years and year until Fallout 5 happens. It’s worth remembering that unlike The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield, Bethesda did not invent Fallout, it was an Interplay game originally and most of the original staff are now at inXile and Obsidian - both of which Microsoft owns. Maybe Bethesda will decide it wants to make Fallout 5 at some point but unless the franchise is in real trouble I don’t think they will. Bethesda boss Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 will be Bethesda Game Studios next big RPG after The Elder Scrolls VI, which probably means well see it by around 2048. If that’s successful it can be continued and whatever developer they use can take stewardship of the franchise. Now that they’re part of the Microsoft empire I think they’ll carry on with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 and that sometime in the next five years we’ll hear of another studio, probably one of the others that Microsoft owns, working on a new spin-off in the vein of New Vegas. Until then, however, Fallout fans have plenty of other Bethesda titles to look forward to in the coming years.Especially after the disaster of Fallout 76, it’s clear that Bethesda are in no hurry to return to the Fallout universe and my prediction is that they’re simply not going to. Starfield is set to release next year, The Elder Scrolls 6will follow it, and only then will players experience a brand-new adventure through post-apocalyptic America. The game will contain Bethesda Game Studios staples, like companions and character perks, but it also looks to innovate with fast-paced gunplay and an unprecedented scale.įans of the Fallout franchise can rest assured that another installment is on the way, but it will likely be years before Bethesda even shows the title off. Starfield will let players customize their player character and spaceship before they explore the Settled Systems, an open galaxy of over 1,000 planets. Bethesda Game Studios' next big release is 2023's Starfield, which will be followed by. The developer recently showed off Starfield RPG gameplay mechanics during Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, giving fans an idea of what they can expect from the upcoming title. Fallout 5 is currently in development at Bethesda Game Studios, but it's not coming for a long time. Bethesda is known for its considerably lengthy development cycles, however, so Fallout 5 is unlikely to release any time soon. Still, gamers can take comfort in knowing that Fallout 5 is next on Bethesda's list rather than a sequel to Starfield or another new property.īefore the launch of The Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5, Bethesda Game Studios will deliver an entirely original cosmic experience. The beloved developer is expected to launch Starfield early next year, and the next Elder Scrolls game is already in the pre-production stages. Related: Fallout New Vegas 2 Is More Exciting Than Fallout 5ĭuring a recent interview with IGN, Todd Howard confirmed that Fallout 5 will be Bethesda's next game after the release of The Elder Scrolls 6. Fans have debated whether Fallout 5 or Elder Scrolls 6will release first, but Howard has now given a definitive answer. Back in 2018 Todd Howard officially announced that The Elder Scrolls 6 will follow Starfield, but no mention was made of another Fallout title. Borrowing mechanics from the Elder Scrolls series, the post-nuclear RPG spawned multiple sequels like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. While the first two games in the franchise were isometric turn-based RPGs, Bethesda's Fallout 3 let players explore the post-apocalyptic ruins of Washington D.C. Bethesda Game Studios took the reigns of the Fallout franchise, which was originally created by Interplay Entertainment, back in 2004.
